Appear to have the easiest remaining schedule. Missing their SF against CSLA. We have a tough road schedule remaining and haven't been faring nearing as well as we did on our long home game stretch in the first half of the season. But hopefully we can fight through and keep it interesting. |

shikago Joined: 07/02/2018 Posts: 67 Inactive | Nice writeups all season, naph. Happy to even be in the race still. Thought my team was buried for good after a brutal in-conference start. Our remaining schedule may look favorable, but my next game could be a really rough one. Both my starting PG & 6th man are injured, while the rest of the top teams seem 100% healthy at the moment. The results of any individual game seem so arbitrary to me sometimes though. So I have no confidence in anything. For example, go back to my conference opener where I lost by 15 to Cal State Dominguez Hills. Which is fine. But then they went on to lose their very next game by 39 points! That's a 54 point swing!! That's crazy. What really drove me mad about that opener wasn't losing, but that my PF (17 reb skill) & C (16 reb skill) were both held to 7 boards while a guy on the other team with a *6* in reb skill had double digit boards... ugh. How is that even possible? |

Congratulations to Shikago/Loyola-Chicago who actually clinched the conference title last round (I think). Holocron/CSDH are also now safe from demotion. 2 of SMC/EIU/FAMU will promote. 1 of MARQ/CSLA will demote. |

naph Joined: 02/29/2020 Posts: 581 St. Marys Gaels III.1 | Loyola-Chicago Ramblers (23-7 +510) - shikago Started 1-3 in conference play, but looked better and better as the season went along. 13-2 in the second half. Has been ranked in the top 10, and enters the conference tournament ranked #11 in the nation. +510 Goal Difference when the next highest in the conference was +266 really speaks to their ability to absolutely dominate a game. Led the conference in numerous categories. Great season. Key Player: 6' 9½" Sr PF Trevor Glenn - 19.6p (eFG%:.632) 11.2r 0.6a 1.7s 1.5b - 8 POTG St. Mary's Gaels - (21-9 +263) (naph) McKeon Pavilion was a fortress this year as the Gaels were 14-1 at home. The road was an adventure to say the least as they were 7-8. Had the most efficient offense this year (eFG%:.561). At just 4-4 in the last 8 games they appear to have peaked too early, but did enough early to get across the line for promotion. Key Player: 6' 9½" Sr C Scott Aldrich - 18.3p (.616) 10.0r 0.4a 1.9s 1.2b OFG:.487 - 10 POTG Eastern Illinois Panthers (21-9 +226) - RickyRide Started the conference season 3-3, but turned things around. Beat every team this year, but that also means they lost games to almost half the conference. Led the league in fast break points and o3FG%. Nasty perimeter defense and their press certainly gave some teams problems. Key Player: 7' 2" Sr C Monte Copeland - 14.2p (.570) 11.1r 0.3a 0.8s 2.1b OFG:.494 - 7 POTG Florida A&M Rattlers (21-9 +225) - BlueDevil10123 Cruel to miss out on promotion by just 1 GD. Went 4-5 in games decided by 5 points or less. Shows you just how close things can be sometimes. Best 3 point shooting team in the conference in both makes and percentage as well as #2 in FTA is impressive. Key Player: 6' 3½" Sr PG Phil Gardner - 19.7p (.542) 2.9r 7.6a 1.0s 0.1b OFG:.406 - 6 POTG South Florida Bulls (19-11 +131) - mike12dog Started the season 7-1, then went 1-6 across mid-December to mid-January. Led the conference in blocks and oFG% (and oEFG%). Enter the conference tourney on a 7 game winning streak. Key Player: 6' 10½" Sr C Dajon Hamm - 12.9p (.552) 10.8r 0.9a 0.6s 2.0b OFG:.443 - 12 POTG Saint Leo Lions (18-12 +266) - jdogg Started the season 10-1 and were just blowing teams out. Were 1-7 over the last 8 games to drop out of promotion contention. Had the second best goal difference. Rough. Key Player: 6' 10½" Jr PF Delon Cantu - 12.1p (.656) 6.6r 0.4a 0.9s 1.2b OFG:.453 - 2 POTG Hartford Hawks (17-13 +190) - BlackBeard Really pushed the tempo averaging 5.6 more FGA/game than anyone else, in no small part to their strength on the boards. Had wins over all 3 promoting teams, but struggled with consistency more than those above. 3-4 in their last 7 heading into the conference tourney. Key Player: 6' 11" Sr C Ramon Cordero - 17.7p (.587) 13.2r 0.4a 0.4s 2.0b OFG:.482 - 7 POTG CS Fullerton Titans (17-13 +57) - Loobins Dropped from 2-0 to 3-5, were pretty good in the middle then dropped 3 of their last 4. Right near the middle in most statistical categories, which is pretty impressive given they were playing a 6' SF and a 6'3" PF. Key Player: 6' 9½" Sr C Ron Jonsson - 15.7p (.576) 11.0r 0.5a 1.0s 2.0b OFG:.510 - 6 POTG Cal State Dominguez Hills Torors (16-14 +32) - Holocron Started the season 2-6 and battled their way back above the demotion line and clung to it by winning their last 4. Another mid-table team that didn't have a stand out strength statistically. Key Player: 6'1" Sr PG Ed Reid - 19.4p (.532) 3.1r 4.8a 1.3s 0.2b OFG:.353 - 6 POTG Cal State Los Angeles (14-16 -182) - Charles07 Started 4-8. Had a section mid season where they won 5 of 6, and won 3 of their last 4 to just finish above the demotion line. Struggled with turnovers all season long, and didn't defend the long ball well, but overall did a good job against the teams below them and surprised enough teams above them when they were on. Key Player: 6' 11" Jr C Wyatt McIntyre - 17.7p (.626) 9.8r 0.5a 0.5s 1.9b OFG:.471 - 9 POTG Marquette Golden Eagles (13-17 -30) - biggestmarquettefan Had a couple of really rough stretches that hurt them. Opened the season 1-5, and had 1-4 and 1-6 sections as well. Those slumps proved just too much to overcome, even though they had a markedly better GD than CSLA. Handily the best assist numbers of any team in the bottom half. Key Player: 6' 9½" So C Michael Powell - 16.1p (.527) 11.3r 0.4a 1.3s 1.4b OFG:.535 - 8 POTG New Hampshire (12-18 -227) - Drew2328 Finished the season winning 4 of their last 6, but they were too far back by that stage. Did a good job of making teams shoot from distance with a conference leading oDIST of 10.1, and they did that despite giving up 10.3 FBP (tied for conference high). Key Player: 6' 3" So SG Horace Gates - 19.6p (.596) 3.1r 2.3a 1.0s 0.1b OFG:.428 - 4 POTG Prairie View A&M Panthers (8-22 -289) - O_Dogg_10 Opened the season with a 1 point win over FAMU and that proved to be the highlight of their season. They were better than the other demotees at protecting the rim, leading them in blocks and OFG. Key Player: 6' 7½" Sr PF Bolin Deng - 18.8p (.547) 10.6r 0.8a 0.8s 1.9b OFG:.483 - 8 POTG SUNY Geneseo Knights (8-22 -318) - scowley75 Started the season 3-1 if you can believe it. Separate 9, 5 and 5 game losing streaks derailed their season. Their best win came agains CSDH which they managed without their leading scorer Emoto (SG). Leading the conference in games lost to injuries certainly didn't help their cause. Key Player: 6' 1½" So PG Glen Carter - 13.5p (.542) 2.4r 5.0a 1.8s 0.2b OFG:.453 - 2 POTG North Carolina Tar Heels (7-23 -312) - mjreichard 1-13 out of the gate, so they did trend upwards, but thats an awfully low starting point. Stunning SMC 98-85 was their brightest point of a season where they couldn't find an effective defense. Key Player: 6' 5" Jr SF Sean Burke - 19.4p (.576) 5.1r 0.9a 1.2s 0.0b OFG:.456 - 4 POTG UPR Mayagüez Bulldogs (5-25 -542) - Jennifer_Lopez Inexplicably beat EIU 89-77, in a season where every win was something of a surprise. They got killed on the glass, gave up the worst oeFG% by some margin and were the only team with a sub .500 eFG%. On the plus side, they shot the 3-ball reasonably efficiently, so if they can get anyone on the inside maybe they can turn that around. Key Player: 5'10" Sr PG Óscar Tejada - 20.8p (.523) 2.1r 3.9a 0.8s 0.0b OFG:.434 - 4 POTG |
