Rice Owls, 1st in Hardwood! :)

after recruiting Round #8, season 2019, Rice Owls are the hottest recruiting team in the country with 32 points in the special ranking, thanks to the commitment of two 4-star local prospects:
center Brett Palumbo
and guard Karl Gies

President Frankebasta gives credit to coach Benny Pierson for the achievement.

a pep rally will be organized to welcome the new Owls stars in occasion of the first home game of Conference play

UNBELIEVABLE!

the promotion race in League V.11 ends in a 4-way tie, which Rice wins thanks to a vastly superior +333 point differential.

What's really unbelievable, and heart stopping, is how it happened:

Rice Owls have been in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, position all season long.
Last game of the regular season, Rice playing the league leader Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

A win and Rice will be promoted.
A loss, and any between Framingham State or Worcester winning, and Rice will be out.

Maritime Academy held their own, overcame the loss of their starting Center Moore and foul troubles to team MVP Bonato, to lead for almost the entire game...only for Rice to tie it at 80 with 5" left, on a desperate 3-pointer by walk-on SF Fraser.
All for naught, as the game best scorer Longoria went for a layup as time expired.

Gut wrenching loss for Rice.

We were already looking to next season...
But!
...opening the Conference page....

Worcester State lost to second place Berry, and it was expected

Framingham State also lost!
By 1! at home!
vs 8th place Hamline!

this game too decided in the last 5 seconds, on a fast break - no less!

Even more amazing, it is the second time Framingham State allows the Rice Owls to be promoted: in 2017 Framingham's President benched it's best players in a final game loss, and Rice went to League IV in their stead.

What a story!

I'm MMA, nice to meet ya Rice! I'm glad I didn't accidentally knock you out of promotion in favor of a bot lol
