I wonder, for a simpler way of making sure teams don't spend a lot of points knowing they don't really have a shot, maybe a recruit could list a top 5 schools (or top 3 or top 7, depending on how many schools offered by then) in a final cut and remove himself from consideration from any school that missed the cut.

It's not a full commitment but it also saves teams the trouble of further pursuing a player that isn't interested in their school.

Would it really tell you anything? What if his level of interest is 89,88,88,87,86,85,84,83

You really going to quit because you are a few Contacts away from the top?

thinking is that after a bit, a recruit cuts his list to 5. if your school is out of the top X school list post cutdown, it'd be as if he already committed somewhere else as far as your recruiting page would be concerned.

(basically if you missed the cut, you can't recruit him anymore)

I see a few issues with this. One, it prevents a team that barely misses the cut-off from deciding they want to go all out for a guy. And this would really have the most impact on guys who stay in the pool for the longest, i.e. the guys that people are more likely to try and make a late move for. So if there is a guy who says he is going to decide late, folks may decided to wait on him, but at some point in the season he just locks the top 5 teams with Low interest and doesn't pay attention to any other team? Seems like too many issues and loopholes with this, while I don't really see the benefit...

It doesn't really save teams trouble. It prevents them to going after players they want. And it protects teams in the top 5 from competition. What if 4 of those teams give out all their scholarships? Now that last team is a shoo-in and doesn't need to add any more contacts because they are safe in knowing no other team can compete for the player. This seems very limiting and mechanic breaking to me.
