Always keep at least 2 scholarship spots available for next season. Always have at least one scholarship available for the current season until league play is finished.

You think bots should do this?

Yep. First of all I think it's realistic, at least the saving 2 for next season part. The main purpose, though, would be to keep all teams somewhat desirable for human ownership. Who wants a team where you can't make any personnel decisions?

This is a really good suggestion, And I totally agree with what Mike is proposing. Heck, you don't need 13 filled sholarships at all to be a great team, just look at Vandy. So what's the need of keeping a bot team full, especially if that opens up options for a human owner to make more immediate decisions.

Maybe this would mean they could narrow their shotgun spray pattern a bit as well? Make them a bit more competitive on talent?

As a brand new owner, I don't think Bot teams need to be more competitive. This game seems to be one where it is very difficult to improve quickly, like maybe in 1 real life year. Just because of how the upper level teams have such a big advantage in recruiting. The little guys are fighting over scraps. That said, I do agree that leaving a few scholarships open would encourage human owners. I had only 1 ship avail for 2006 (and it was filled b/c I joined last week). Next year I have 2 at least.
FYI my team gave 98 contacts to 32 players that committed to other teams and another 13 contacts to guys that were poor choices and didn't sign.

I totally agree that bot recruiting can be improved and appreciate the suggestions.

Obviously, to launch Hardwood, there were certain things that need to work really well (i.e. game engine) and other things can be optimized later (i.e. bot decision making).
