Nice write up. Small correction...we have only 4 seniors (3 in our rotation), but yet this team is peaking this year.

Summary:
The Owls seem to be on a rocketship the last few years, winning back to back to back promotions. Can they keep the good times rolling? They’ve got a definite chance, they just need a couple things to go their way. This is a team without a real weakness on paper, with the only possible target area being that they don’t have an elite point guard. Still, Lambert more than makes up for his lack of elite playmaking ability with elite defense.

Star Player:
SG Nicholas Livingstone - The Redshirt Junior is a scoring dynamo, with elite three point shooting to go with excellent finishing. He’s not an elite defender, but he’s been surprisingly solid his whole career, and even can help a little on the boards, averaging 3 rebounds a game for his career.

Breakout Player:
SG Jody Sargent - Generally wouldn’t want to pick the Star Players backup, but I think Sargent is good enough that he should get 10+ minutes at the 2, and I think there’s a really good chance he starts stealing all the backup minutes at the 1 and proves he’s the PG of the future for the Owls.

Summary:
The Bluejays are two years removed from winning this Conference, but having endured their worst season in a decade they’re back competing in III.3. With four Seniors leading the way as the team’s best players, the Bluejays don’t have to worry about a double demotion, but will be hard pressed to really challenge for promotion with a weaker front-court. Still, this should be an exciting season as youngsters Mancuso, Franke and Page all start getting key minutes and really developing for the future.

Star Player:
PG Elijah Cook - The Senior will easily lead the Bluejays in scoring, assists and steals in his final season. The real question is just where does he rank among all the great players to put on a jersey for Creighton? He’s already top 10 in threes and assists, and should get into the top 10 in a few other categories before the season is over.

Breakout Player:
C Dick Franke - The Sophomore has already started 50 games in his career, and has improved a ton since starting as a Freshman. He should lead this team in rebounds and blocks, while finishing top three in points. He’s still got lots of growing to do, so the future is bright for the front court.

Summary:
The Beacons were a little unlucky to demote from II.2 last season, after a successful first year. It’s arguable they were better then the team just ahead of them, but they lost some key Conference games that cost them. The good news is they definitely don’t have to worry about double demotion, and could challenge for the final promotion spot in the right circumstances. The team is built with good perimeter defence and IQ, but is a little light in the rebounding department.

Star Player:
PG Jean Stump - While Senior Dylan Toney may seem the pick as he’ll lead the team in scoring and three pointers, the Senior PG is the Beacons most important player. With elite on-ball defending skills and an insane +7” wingspan, Stump will lock down the opposing team’s guards in every matchup, and should score 15+ points as well.

Breakout Player:
PF Billy Joe Harrington - The Redshirt Junior finally looks ready to start, and should double his minutes played from last season. While he’s not an elite post-player, he has a very good shot and can stretch the paint. He is also the team’s best rebounder, and while lacking in defense he has the physical skills to get there.

Summary:
The Firebirds seem to be on a slow rise under the leadership of cal_DMV, moving up from VI.23, and through VI.12 and IV.6 over the last 5 seasons. The team has clearly been built with a staggered approach to ensure they don’t suffer and demotions along the way, and the good news is that this doesn’t look like it will change in 2023. The last of the ‘definitely safe’ teams, the Firebirds looking like a lock to stay up while not really competing for one of the top 3 spots. Another team built on perimeter defense and smarts, they lack the ability to stop interior threats to really challenge.

Star Player:
SG Charley Oliveri - The Senior SG is a lock to lead the team in scoring, and pairs this with excellent perimeter defense and elite speed. There really isn’t much one can do against Oliveri to stop him, and he’s going to stop most other teams SGs as well.

Breakout Player:
PF Stacy Hodges - The true Freshman is already getting a ton of minutes, and that doesn’t look to end with Conference play here. The Firebirds seem set to build around him at PF, and he’s going to be needed as the team's best big-man. An exciting future lies ahead of him, but his present is pretty darn interesting as well.

Summary:
The Kangaroos are a team in a little bit of a tumble, having demoted two straight seasons to end up in III.3. They’ve brought in a new president who they’re hoping can right the ship. The good news is they’ve got two very good Seniors in Jim Conners and Demarco Blount who, with a bunch of solid Juniors, should help the team as it fights to stay in III.3. This team isn’t elite in anything, but it’s also not bad at anything. The only real need is a little more size.

Star Player:
PG Demarco Blount - The Redshirt Senior should put up career numbers across the board at the expense of his assists, but that’s okay. He’s a dynamic player with great point skills, and elite speed. His only hole is on defense, where he can’t really stop anyone. Still, definitely the Kangaroos best and most important player.

Breakout Player:
C Daniel Sherill - The Sophomore is primed to eat all the starters minutes at the 5, and should be productive scoring and rebounding. While he’s likely to always be a terrible defender, his scoring ability and strength should mean he puts up great counting stats, even if they are a little empty on the defensive end.

Summary:
The Eagles are another team on the fast rise, having won their Conference for promotion each of the past three seasons. While it’s very unlikely they will be battling for promotion again, the good news is they should have enough about them to claim one of the last safety spots. If the team struggles, though, it’ll be due to mediocre rebounding and interior defense overall.

Star Player:
C Geoffrey Norton - The Redshirt Senior has had a very good career already, culminating in an All-Conference nod last year. This year it’s expected he’ll show much of the same, which means dominating interior scoring and defense. His only weakness is he’s a mediocore rebounder, but he’ll still likely average between 7-8 rebounds a game.

Breakout Player:
SG Jean Hurley - The Redshirt Junior is finally set to get his time to shine, after being handed the starting SG job. He starts with excellent defense, but also happens to have a solid, if not great, offensive skill-set that should lead to him being a good two-way player.

Summary:
The Golden Flyers have managed back-to-back promotions on the back of their golden generation. They look now to stabilize themselves as an LL3 team, hoping to grab one of the last safe spots in the Conference as they reload. If they do it, it’ll be on the backs of Senior PG Stephen McKinnon, as well as Juniors PF Dan Hopkins and C Chad McCurdy. If they fail it’ll be because despite having great defense, they didn’t have enough scoring.

Star Player:
PG Stephen McKinnon - The Redshirt Senior is the straw that stirs the Golden Flyers’ drink, and that shouldn’t change this season. While he may be hard-pressed to match last years numbers, McKinnon is an elite play-maker who can also hit some shots. Expect a little dip in points, though, as Nazareth hopes to make him slightly more efficient.

Breakout Player:
SF Reed Fox - The Redshirt Sophomore has looked very good during the lead up to Conference play, taking all the backup minutes at the 2 and 3. Nazareth’s highest ceiling player seems to have figured out his three-point shot a little, and pairs that with solid all-around skills. He’ll be looking to prove he can be the long-term answer at the two or three moving forward.

Summary:
The Mules demoted to III.3 last year, but managed to stabilize themselves and avoid the double demotion. Will they be able to keep themselves in III.3 another year as they wait for their young players to develop? If they do, it will be because of their mix of Seniors, Juniors and Sophomore Kennith Rea. They’re another team that isn’t elite in any one thing, but also doesn’t have any obvious weakness, which may be why they can stay up in the end.

Star Player:
C Craig Conti - The Redshirt Junior looks like the man who will lead the Mules in both scoring and rebounds. He also brings solid defense inside, making him a great two-way threat for Muhlenberg.

Breakout Player:
SG John Calhoun - The true Freshman 4-star recruit looks a lock to start at SG for the Mules. He has enough shooting ability that he should immediately put up decent numbers, and hopefully with the experience he also starts to develop the defensive side of his game more.

Summary:
The Mountain Hawks bounced back last year, after suffering three straight demotions. That’s the good news, the bad news is that they may be hard-pressed to avoid demoting back to IV.5. While Calloway is potentially the Conference’s best SF, the rest of the team doesn’t look to have enough about it to be a lock to avoid demotion. The lack of defense in particular is a real area of worry.

Star Player:
SF Quentin Calloway - The Redshirt Senior is far and away the team’s best player. He’s the team’s best defender by a wide margin as well, and he’ll definitely carry the team on both ends.

Breakout Player:
SG James France - The Redshirt Freshman former 4-star recruit looks a lock to start at SG, and with his range he should be a decent 3-point threat. He has enough defensive ability to help right away as well, and elite speed.

Summary:
The Runnin Bulldogs have spent 4 of the last 7 seasons in III.3, having twice been demoted in that time. This season unfortunately looks to be another demotion season, as the team doesn’t seem to have enough about it to stay up. There’s a chance Juniors Yanez, Stinson and Moody are enough with Seniors Kinder and Horton to help them avoid it, but it looks like a really tough battle.

Star Player:
PG Juan Carlos Yanez - The Redshirt Senior looks set for a career season across the board, and should lead the team in scoring while also being it’s best on-ball defender. He’s lightning quick, smart and brings good drive and dish ability too.

Breakout Player:
PF Jonathan Whitaker - The Redshirt Sophomore former 4-star recruit brings outstanding rebounding ability as well as solid offensive and defensive skills to his first year in the starting lineup. He’s the player to build around, and it seems like they’re ready to embrace that in his third year with the team.

Summary:
The Rams have won back-to-back promotions, before having a solidifying year last year in their first season in III.3. Unfortunately, it looks like they’re pretty much a lock for demotion. With only 5 scholarship players on the roster, and all of them Seniors, this team just doesn’t have any depth to really compete.

Star Player:
PF Carl Forbes - The Redshirt Senior is about to blow out all his personal records. He’s already doubling his average in points, FGA and steals. He’s the best of a mediocre bunch for this team.

Breakout Player:
SG Louis Hull - The Freshman should just absorb minutes by need, and while he’s not a great player, he’s the best of the non-Seniors on the team.

Summary:
The Tigers won promotion back to III.3 in their first season under new coach Freddy Drew, winning IV.5 in a close race. Unfortunately, they lost a lot of their key talent and this is definitely a transition season for the team. Without the depth necessary to stay up, they look like a lock to demote, but the future is bright with some really exciting young talent.

Star Player:
PF Voshon Kelly - The Senior, former Junior College star looks to bring his elite scoring prowess to a team in need of it. WHile he isn’t a great defender, his elite athleticism paired with good IQ should help him to outscore his opponents in most games.

Breakout Player:
PG Will Holt - The true Freshman is a 5-star recruit who is the teams starting PG right away. While he’s got a ways to go to hit his potential, his playmaking and shooting skills should be great assets right away.
