There are 15 regions, there’s probably a way to merge some of the weaker regions to narrow it down to about 8 teams that have a yearly tournament. I agree it would be fun to see the top players complete with and against each other.

I like the regional team "All-Star" idea

I think there's already an all-star teams selection. But why not have something more.

Also, some of you have a wrongly low opinion about other countries. I don't want to see the Czech National team killing Pennsylvania selection every season. :D

There aren't national teams in Hardwood. Maybe in the future...

For me, it's just not high on the list. This is a game focusing on college basketball. National teams (at least these days) are mostly pro player, no?

I understand it's low priority, but about professional status I think you are right only for men's teams.

From my point of view FISU rules would be better fit for HW (basically students only which is what we do here).

We I would like to put forth my support for national teams to be added.
To address some concerns: The United States would have a big advantage, yes, but Hardwood, and sports in general, are naturally composed of a lot of competitive imbalance as a pretty normal aspect. In Hardwood, we fairly regularly have games between division II and III teams competing against those in division I, which I assume would be a bigger imbalance or similar to the United States against Australia and Canada for example. Not to mention that the fact that some national teams would be huge underdogs is part of the fun of the competition.
Another concern is the idea that it would slow the flip. This does not have to be the case. If, for example, the championship takes place in August, it would be very possible to have the flip take place with an essentially unchanged timeline with the exception of maybe when we advance the in-game date. Once we reach the start of the world championship, from how I uneerstand the simulation, it would be very possible to simulate 1 round of a tournament each hour on a day like today with no events scheduled.
As Divac has mentioned, it would also likely be fairly simple to take the code from Broken Bat, which has a very fun World Classic system, and could be shorted quite easily by just not having each round be a series. Is it extremely critical to the game? No, but it would be extremely fun, and fairly simple to implement unless I'm mistaken, which I may be.
Come to me with any other potential concerns, and I guarantee I will be able to think of a solution.

I would like to add my name to the list of people who support the creation of national teams.

As others have said before me, I think that during these few days after the flip, a sim tournament could be a fun addition.

If a tournament is too difficult to create or run, just having a list of the best players from each nation would be a good thing to have. Perhaps the "Top Players" section could be made filterable by nation/class/region/state, similar to how the "Top Prospects" page can be filtered currently. I personally think this is a common sense thing to change.

If you're looking for a real-life reason for a tournament like this to exist, there is a long tradition of amateur international basketball, beginning in the 30s with the Olympics and continuing to this day with the FISU Universidade Tournament and the FIBA U19 World Cup...
I should note that the only reason FIBA and the Olympics no longer do a specifically "college" tournament is because of negotiations between int'l organizations and the professional leagues that happened during the Cold War (a whole lot of historical mess, but the end result was that men's basketball players could become pros at a younger age, and pros could play in international competition; that's how we got the '92 Dream Team). Because HW doesn't have any of these contract negotiations or historical politics --I'm assuming there was no Hardwood version of the USSR or Yugoslavia??-- there would be no reason to limit it to U19. It would instead be a U23, since all the active college players in HW are under 23.
