Apr 01 2034: What a Year! - by BBallFTW on September 20th, 2023

USC Upstate will be promoted to DII following this phenomenal season, with the Spartans going 35-10 on the year, making the conference tournament finals, and qualifying for the DIII national tournament! This season was possible in huge part by Head Coach Steve Cousins who has improved immensely over the past two seasons. On the court, junior center Dewayne Reid led the way, averaging 22.3 PPG, and 14.5 RPG, an improvement by 8 in both categories from last season. The team went on two eight game win streaks, and I am really proud of our defense this year. Watch out DII!

The Spartans have had a significant bounce back this year, finishing the regular season at a 23-17 record and a 17-13 conference record after finishing last regular season with a 10-30 record with a 9-21 conference record. Coach Steve Cousins has given full confidence in his team going into the conference tournament, pushing the squad to play at their best.

Feb 12 2032: New Commit After Huge Win! - by BBallFTW on May 15th, 2023

After USC Upstate's 97-70 win over Georgia College, in which center Clement Blanc had 26 points and 17 rebounds, the Spartans received a commitment from Jason Griffin, a two star JUCO point guard. Griffin is the 7th ranked JUCO in Florida and averaged 4 points per game in 13 minutes of action per game.

Jan 22 2032: USC Upstate suffers close loss - by BBallFTW on May 9th, 2023

Coach Steve Cousins was seen berating Kevin Church after USC Upstate's 71-72 loss to the Oregon Ducks. Church, a JUCO from Spartanburg, shot 4-15 from the field, had six turnovers, and missed two clutch free throws late. Cousins was asked about this in the post-game press conference. "Kevin knows how good he is. He needs to get more shots to his teammates, and stop turning the ball over." When asked about what he liked from the game, the coach said, "I liked what I saw from Quentin off the bench, five threes is awesome for him. I also loved the rebounding that our bigs had, twelve each is great!" Next week, the Spartans stay on the road to face the 1-26 New Mexico Highlands.
