Press Releases:

Oct 04 2012: 2012 Awards - by mason on May 11th, 2020

Grambling State's most improved player is Roland Trent. The coach has saw him put in a ton of work in 2012, earning all-conference honors. We hope he will be up for the challenge of learning the point guard position in his senior season.

Emmanuel Hardy is our 2012 Most Valuable Player. He also was able to grab an all-conference slot and we are all extremely excited to see what he can do in his last year here in Grambling.

Mar 03 2012: End of 2012 season wrap - by mason on April 27th, 2020

We expected this to be a tough season so we exceeded our expectations by finishing conference play with the same 18-12 record we had last season. We did it with the 2nd ranked offense in our conference led by the most accurate 3 point shooting. We only have one player graduating, so our goal for next season is to promote.

Mar 10 2011: End of Season Wrap - by mason on March 3rd, 2020

We had some great moments this season so I know everybody is disappointed to see our run end so early. We finished conference play 18-12 which only earned us 8th in the only conference in Hardwood with no 11-16 win teams this season. We finished with the 4th ranked defense and the 8th ranked offense. Now some awards:

Grambling Playoff MVP: Dale Norris
It sucks to have to base this award on just one game for the second consecutive season. Foul trouble gave this amazing walk on an increased role in the last game of his career and he capitalized. His shot was on point today and he was our top scorer. He will be missed.

Grambling State Most Improved: Roland Trent and Emmanuel Hardy
Both these sophomores deserve a mention here for finishing this season as far better players than they were at the start of it.

Finally, Grambling Conference-Play MVP: Charles Tuttle
For the second straight year it is clear that Tuttle has been the most impactful player on the court. Averaging a double-double, he was tied for 2nd most POTG honors in the conference with 12. Maybe I'm counting my chickens before they hatch, but I expect to see him on the all-conference team. He will be missed.

Also, I'm excited to announce we've scheduled 4 very challenging rivalries against Vanderbilt, St. Thomas, Tulane, and Mississippi St.

Jan 13 2011: Midseason Update - by mason on February 16th, 2020

Whats up Grambling Tiger Nation! We're through the first round of league play and so far I'm proud of what I've seen on the court. We are 9-6 and 2 games back from promotion. We have the 6th ranked defense in the conference, but only the 10th ranked offense.

The 2 most efficient teams in our conference so far this season, Washington State (#1 off #2 def) and Angelo State (#3 off #3 def) were both just relegated from the conference above us, conf. V.2, which indicates to me that our road to Division 1 will be a treacherous battle.

This is also my first chance to welcome our new long term coach, Deshawn Haynes, who is amazing at recruiting and developing players.

I'm also happy to announce the exciting recruiting class Deshawn was able to pull in:
Toma Furata: the number one ranked international point guard.
Brendan Marlow: a 6'6" power forward from Alabama.
Andrew Burley: a 6'2" center from California who has a ton of room to grow.

Mar 11 2010: End of Season Awards - by mason on January 7th, 2020

My first partial season has come to a conclusion with Grambling State. It was definitely a learning season for me and also a couple others in our organization, and there is still much more to learn, but I did see some excellent play this year, so I'd like to give out player awards. I can only speak on conference play because that is when I took over the team.

Tigers Playoff MVP! Elias Nieminen!
Nieminen was locked in from deep in our only playoff game of the season, going 7/8 on 3PT attempts!
His efficient 32 PTS were accompanied by 8 rebounds and 3 blocks! His presence in our starting lineup will be greatly missed next season, which gets me to my next award.

Tigers Most Improved Player! Emmanuel Hardy!
Hardy has been solid coming off the bench in conference play averaging 6 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Expect to see him in our starting lineup next season! I'm excited to see what kind of player he can become over the next 3 years.

Last, and obviously not least!

Grambling State Tigers Conference Player of the Year! Charles Tuttle!
Tuttle has been our clear leader on the court this season. Starting conference play as an undersized center, he's stepped up for us, changing position and never skipping a beat with his great play averaging 12 PTS and 9 REB per game!

Looking forward to next year!
