Mar 20 2027: North Georgia falls in OT heartbreaker after historic season. - by AYoung21 on August 22nd, 2022

After coming off a a regular season with 26 wins, the most in program history, the North Georgia Nighthawks lost to the Penn Quakers in the second round in the D3 tournament. Tied 70-70 at the end of regulation, the Nighthawks could not finish strong, losing 87-76 in overtime. Senior PG Derek Singletary, who led the team in points per game, missed the game due to injury and it highly impacted the team. Standout junior Irwin Beane put the team on his back against the Quakers, scoring 23 and going 5-6 from the 3pt, while the rest of the team combined to be an atrocious 1-24 from deep. Regardless of the bad ending to an amazing season, coach Rafael Carey says the team next season shows promise. "I believe even with the loss of three great seniors we can still stay consistent and have another amazing season even if we are in a more challenging conference." Small forward Irwin Beane will lead the team next season as the team gets promoted.
