Mar 02 2006: Berea College doing fine - by derkrieger on May 27th, 2019
AD Derkrieger is proud of the comeback of the Berea basketball programme. With the addition of local basketball talents, Berea is a hot topic now at least in Kentucky, despite its low level league and competition.
Feb 01 2003: Quo Vadis Berea College? - by derkrieger on December 3rd, 2018
Once the promising basketball program of Berea College is in shambles, right now. For many, nobody but the Coach is there to blame, for he has failed to attract new talents to the program. But for a majority, it is the AD Derkrieger that should be held responsible for the underperforming Mountaineers and their quick reversal of fortune. With a relegation in the horizon, can they manage to avoid the hurtful farewell? Derkrieger defends himself vehemently. According to an insider source, he blames the Coach, Eddie Bundy. He is a goner and Derkrieger may follow the suit. He has lost all his credit in the eyes of the fellows of the program. Former UK guard is reported to apply for an assistant coaching position by the Wildcats and Johnny Kaliparius is ready to lend a helping hand.
How about the Mountaineers? They seem to be doomed to live in agony for the foreseeable future.
Jan 18 2003: Berea facing tough California Lutheran: Blessing in Disguise? - by derkrieger on November 29th, 2018
Berea College Athletic Director Derkrieger does not sound pleased about his side's performance so far. "We are going to see tomorrow what we are really made of" he added yesterday. I am utterly disappointed with the team, coaches and myself. California Lutheran may be a wake-up call for the whole program.
"We cannot lose tomorrow", Derk stressed. "Whether we are routed by the superior, undefeated-in-the-conference Cal Lutheran or nor, it does not matter. If we can not cope with them, we will still be well informed about our limits and capabilities and that is a huge win, too".
Local supporters however are blaming him for throwing the whole roster and the coaches under the bus. One of them (under the condition of anonymity) said, "Derkrieger cannot and must not get away with his erroneous decision-making.
He should be held responsible for everything".
Dec 22 2001: Berea College Mountaineers add two recruits. But who are they? - by derkrieger on September 26th, 2018
Things seem to be rosy on the Berea College campus. AD Derkrieger were ecstatic about the new recruits of their basketball program. Kendrick Hilliard of McAllen, Texas, a feisty SG with great playmaking abilities is the latest addition to the Berea roster, which will lose some local basketball legends next year. "Hilliard was our favorite from the moment we met him" added Derkrieger, who was a walk-on in the legendary UK program in the 90's. "The second recruit is Scot Steeter from Gainesville, Florida" he said. " Berea has his own Rodman and UFL will regret for not recruiting him". However, Berea local media is complaining that Steeter is deemed to be only 1-star player. One anonymous commentator was vocal about his disillusionment due to this rather unstellar crop of newcomers.
Derkrieger, a 15 year veteran of Euro basketball with Turkish and German origins reiterated his confidence in the talents of Hilliard and Steeter. "Fundamentals count and we will shock the naysayers".
Mar 24 2001: Berea College Mountaineers confident about future - by derkrieger on August 28th, 2018
Berea College faithful have more good news to hear says a pundit of the local basketball scenes in Kentucky. Mountaineers are keen on the idea of adding to their Championship-caliber roster two additions via recruiting, and it is very likely that they will sign LOI in a few day time.
Mountaineers have tasted the success and they will not seem to let go of it.
