Jan 29 2037: Big News Week for UT-Tyler - by connor-d on February 15th, 2024

Lots of noteworthy stories have been coming out of the UT-Tyler campus this week. First, in a win over conference rival. Berea College, star guard Bart Pauley became the school's all time leading scorer, passing school legend Harry Thornton. Pauley is the best shooter on the team in recent memory and is having a career-best season in FG%, 3P%, and FT%, as well as playing a career most minutes and recording 2 steals per game. If he keeps these numbers up, a second-consecutive All Conference team should be an easy achievement. More recently, the team received a surprising commitment from JUCO point guard Jerry Roby. Roby doesn't excel in any category but could be a decent primary ball handler and has a well rounded offensive game. It's possible that Roby receives a redshirt next season since the team is also adding a high school recruit in Eric Bivens who they tout a little higher than Roby, and return current point guard Mack Mead for his senior season. Roby also has a bit of positional flexibility to play small forward, but would be undersized at the position and might not have the defense needed, but nonetheless it will be interesting to see how the Patriots use their new recruit next year.

See y'all next time with some more Patriot news.

Jan 01 2037: UT-Tyler Makes Recruiting Splash - by connor-d on February 7th, 2024

In their first season under new leadership, the UT-Tyler Patriots have made great strides to improve upon a mediocre 2036 season, most recently with the news that 3-star prospect Eric Bivens has committed to be a Patriot next year. It's a major victory on the recruiting trail for coach Jay Montanari, who many thought might be replaced with budding assistant Grayson Free if the season didn't go as planned. Bivens is a promising in-state combo-guard out of Dallas, and figures to be one of UTT's best players next year with the mass exodus of seniors coming at the end of the season. Bivens has potential to score at all three levels, rebound, pass, and with a little help could be a decent defender. He's the only committed player for the Patriots in what has been a rough recruiting cycle so far, but anyone familiar with the program knows this is the guy they wanted the most, so fans and coaches alike will be pleased with the news.

Oct 29 2036: New President Promises Change - by connor-d on January 20th, 2024

After the announcement of a new president of UTT, it's clear that some major change could be coming. The senior class is large but only has 3 scholarship players, so replacing everyone is going to be a challenge, but the school has made a commitment to compete with big programs like the University of Texas to get top high school recruit Eric Bivens. Coaching may also need to be addressed in the next offseason, as head coach Jay Montanari is 60 years old and isn't getting any younger. Many close to the program believe that 30-year-old assistant Grayson Free is the top candidate to replace coach Monty, as Free is seen by top brass as a tactical expert and a fresh perspective as head coach. Regardless of any potential success this season, it will in all likelihood be a season full of change and experimentation as the Patriots look to prepare for the future under new leadership.
