Pig_Cola Joined: 07/02/2018 Posts: 116 Arizona State Sun Devils V.2 | I'm very disappointed in how my team performed vs California today. We got outscored in the paint, which was not good for my team and had 27 TO's, which is not very good at all. This is the second season in which my team will not participate in the national tournament, which disappoints me quite a bit. There was a big upset in the conference playoffs, with South Carolina losing to last place Oregon. South Carolina was a very dominant team all season and lost vs Oregon. I wonder what happened in that game. |

Unfortunately, we have experienced 3 new player injury's from our last game. Injury all to our starters or prior starters. This makes 21 times players have been down in the 23 games we have played so far this season. Still have another 22 injury day's yet to go on the existing injured. If your like us, your team takes no great joy in defeating teams not at their best. You can only wonder why a game would use injury as a weapon of such strong magnitude. Rest assured we will give the Bears the best we have against your fine team today, even though I'm doubtful we will be able to do much more than finish. |

Looking over the conference stats, 161 injury's to our conference 16 teams in the 27 games so far. Those aren't NCAA representative stats! You all on board with this type activity?????

With the handwriting on the wall they look into additional sources for sports related income. Think what it will really come down to should they decide to proceed is credibility issues. To easy to skew things such as the injury percentage, recruiting selection, player substitutions, are here. Even without the betting many players are very passionate concerning their sports online activity as most are here. I really don't see these groups expanding into the simulated aspect. Some such as Yahoo have had a long run though, more than 25 years since the original "Sandbox", so who knows. |

Pace and Dominican stand out the most for different reasons - Pace due to their size, Dominican for their skill players. I could see ASU or Simon Fraser being a dark horse, but really almost anyone could. My familiarity with Cal and Cal Baptist from last season naturally makes me weary of both of them - probably more Cal Baptist this year with their ability to light it up from downtown. Vandy and URI have some great talent at the top but no depth so any injuries will make them close to automatic relegations....never underestimate the AI though! |

In-line with early season predictions, Pace and Dominican are the class of the conference so far. But the big surprise is the competitiveness in the middle tier of the conference / 3rd promotion spot. It's clear there aren't really going to be any "breathers" in the schedule this season outside of maybe Gonzaga. Vanderbilt can probably beat anybody with that starting 5 assuming they don't die on the court from fatigue and Portland seems to finally be hitting the groove they should have hit last season. Going to be fun trying to avoid relegation! |

We honestly underestimated Vandy, thinking we could play a redshirting FR with McBride out. And we walloped at home. Rough stuff. But we've had a nice first third or so of the conference, playing a pretty tough early slate. I'm proud of my team so far and it's fun trying to prove myself against some of the best managers in the game.

Vandy will take the 2nd spot shockingly barring a collapse or unlikely sweep by Francis Marion/Cal Baptist. More likely that Pace/Francis Marion/Cal Baptist finish in a 3-way 19-11 tie leaving 2 teams heart broken on PD. Pace needs some blowouts to avoid a lot of 2nd guessing after their early season run. On the other side of the table, I know spirits are down in Tuscaloosa (and probably rightfully so), but the Crimson Tide has a winnable 4 games left on their schedule. As long as they don't use the games to develop the young guys as they did against Temple (which I thank them for), it's possible as they'll likely have the PD tiebreaker and Simon Fraser/Pueblo/Temple could definitely lose 3 of 4 to end the season |

Portland will be decimated. A lot of other teams that reek of mediocrity so definitely doesn't seem like III.1 will be as strong as it was this season. We'll have to see who from II.1 ends up here in the lottery to get a better picture. |

naph Joined: 02/29/2020 Posts: 581 St. Marys Gaels III.1 | Just past the halfway point in the season. Georgetown(14-2 +282) have been the class of the conference. They have more than 100 goal difference on the next closest team and have been dominant. Warren is the only player averaging more than 20ppg (23.2). He's hit a ridiculous 78 of 79 from the charity stripe so far this season. Pace(13-3 +181) have won their last 11 in a row and are the hottest team in the conference. 6 players are averaging double digits. They don't take a heap of them, but having 3 players shooting better than 42% from three certainly doesn't hurt their spacing, Gamberini is hitting on .491 from deep. Utah State(11-5 +148) are the run and gun team. They play the fastest tempo in the conference and that has them leading the conference in a heap of stats including steals (10.1), blocks (4.5) and 3PM (10.0), Fast Break Points (16.4) and forced turnovers (17.4). Barbieri (16.2p 8.2a 1.6s 3FG:.418) really runs the show. Another team with 6 players averaging double digits. Minnesota State(10-6 +181) have the most efficient offense in the conference led by Shaver who averages 19.7ppg at a ridiculous .734 FG%. Eastern Illinois (10-6 +152) are 3-5 across an 8 game stretch where SF Wise was injured for 7 of those games. They're 9-2 when he is healthy and are currently on an 8 game winning streak. They lead the conference in Points in the Paint (47.1) more than 5 more than any other team. They also lead in FTM (18.1) and FTA (25.3) Lipscomb (9-7 +56) are led by Howe (16.9p) and his conference leading 3.0 threes per game comes at a .425 clip. They're above average in most categories, without anything truly standing out. Temple (9-7 +18) play a more controlled game. No team below them has fewer turnoves. Their defense can let them down at times, but their trio of Ware/Hannah/Gable go for 45+ per game and keep them in most games. Simon Fraser (8-8 -8) are the 2nd slowest team in the conf and have the best oeFG% holding teams to just .492 so far. Double-double machine Cooke's (11.9p 10.1r) numbers even more impressive at that tempo. St. Mary's (8-8 -36) had some big losses early, but have won their last 6. Poole leads the conference in assists (8.7). Point Loma Nazarene (8-8 -54) are led in scoring by sixth man Sykes (15.4p) who might play 3 positions in the same game. Their leader is undoubtedly Wells (15.3p 10.9r) though. They don't have much of a threat from deep and that hinders their spacing at times. Minnesota Crookston (7-9 +4) are the only other team holding teams to under .500 eFG. Unfortunately for them they have a conference worst eFG% of .483 They have the number 1 and 3 rebounders in Felder(11.1r) and Messina(10.3), but that hasn't translated to a large team rebounding margin. Francis Marion (7-9 -71) are one of just 3 teams shooting better than 37% from three and are led by Malone (18.3p) and Epps (16.8p 4.3a) CSU-Pueblo (5-11 -36) have a top three scorer in Gorman (19.1p 3.4a) and are pretty close to a better record having lost 6 games by single figures. Their close overall goal difference tells you how close they are. South Dakota State (5-11 -254) have the 2nd worst eFG% (.495) paired with the worst oeFG% (.595). Dailey (15.8p 9.4r) and Starkey (16.6p 2.6a) are their best two, but it seems they have two many people to hide on defense most nights. Portland (3-13 -301) are led by their backcourt Blair (12.5p 3.6a). Nye (17.6p) leads the scoring, but does so with volume. They give up a lot of extra possessions. California Baptist (1-15 -262) have 4 of the conference's top 8 in minutes. Madison (17.1p 9.9r 1.4b) toils hard, but doesn't have enough support. Updated Monday, September 6 2021 @ 6:59:08 am PDT |

El jefe Joined: 07/06/2018 Posts: 674 Temple Owls II.1 | I'll give Naph a break....with 5 games to go, here is the conference picture Georgetown(19-6 +344) have really come back down to earth after a scorching hot start and no longer look like a guaranteed conference winner. They have at least 3 or 4 wins left on the schedule even though their next two games against Utah St and Pace will probably be split. Looking at 22-23 wins Pace(18-7 +164) another team that have come back to the pack after winning 13 in a row at one point. 3 more wins seems a good bet, with a tough road game against Simon Fraser potentially being a 4th. That won't be enough to win the conference but should be enough for promotion; 21-22 wins Utah State(17-8 +168) a few surprise home losses have put the Aggies promotion hopes in question with St. Mary's hot on their heels. 3-2 over their last five is highly likely, which will put them right on the edge with 20 wins St. Mary's (16-9 +146) one of the hottest teams in D1 has won 14 of 15 and might pull off the biggest in-season turnaround HW has seen in a while. The schedule is not forgiving with 4 more road games, but each game is winnable so 4 more wins is likely, which puts the Gaels in a tie with Utah St and a PD tiebreaker in play; 20 wins Minnesota State (15-10 +206) one of the more surprising underachievers this season given the talent and height on this team, but they could still pull off 4 or 5 more wins so promotion is still in play but they'll need some help (or bad luck) from the above teams; 19-11 or 20-10 Eastern Illinois (15-10 +172) very under the radar this season, and they will end up firmly in the middle of the pack at about 18-12. Simon Fraser (15-10 +75) have had a nice turnaround since midseason, and while they have a home heavy schedule, it's against some tough opponents 17-13 or 18-12 is most plausible, keeping the Clan in III.1 another season. Temple (15-10 +62) two heartbreaking home losses in a row ended the Owls unlikely promotion hopes. They seem safe from relegation, but have an incredibly tough remaining schedule that includes the top 4 teams in the league, so 16-14 seems to be the best case scenario. Lipscomb (14-11 +155) two or three more wins seems likely for the Bison to avoid relegation; injuries may throw a wrench in that prediction but this season is definitely a bit of a disappointing result given the senior-heavy squad. Minnesota Crookston (11-14 +9) now things get interesting again. Crookston has to like the home heavy schedule against mostly beatable opponents, but given their inconsistency this season I could see losses to two of Minn St, Pueblo and Simon Fraser which puts them squarely at 14-16 or 13-17...right on the line. CSU-Pueblo (10-15 +17) Pueblo is making a run at staying up in III.1 similar to last season. They have been tough luck losers in a lot of games this season and probably have to win 2 on the road to have a chance to stay up (all against teams they lost to at home). I'm not feeling too rosy about them finishing better than 13-17 so they will need some help from Crookston to get to a PD tiebreaker. Francis Marion (10-15 -208) with two Senior starters above 180 SI, and a 170+ JR, this can't be the result the Patriots were expecting this season. They might be able to swing 3 wins but 2 is more likely, meaning LL4 is in the future for the former National Champions for the first time since 2005. Point Loma Nazarene (9-16 -216) have completely fallen off a cliff the 2nd half of the season, but might be able to pull off 1 or 2 more wins. It won't be enough to avoid relegation, but the Sea Lions good young roster should be back up soon. South Dakota St, Cal Baptist and Portland have their relegation fates sealed. California Baptist (6-21) @ Eastern Illinois (16-11) - Eastern Illinois stays in the promotion conversation Point Loma Nazarene (10-17) @ #8 Georgetown (21-6) - Georgetown locks up the conference Minnesota State (17-10) @ Lipscomb (16-11) - MSU dominates the boards/paint again and keeps pace for promotion. Temple (16-11) @ Pace (19-8) - Temple (nepotism) breaks the "best player injury" jinx and eeks out a road win to make their last two games worth scouting St. Marys (17-10) @ Portland (3-24) - I like Portland here....just kidding Naph. St Mary's won the first match by almost 70 so this isn't close and...... Utah State (18-9) @ Simon Fraser (15-12) - with a Simon Fraser win here, Naph inches ever closer in PD with USU, to make the last few games the talk of the town. The Clan will use their slow pace and inside game to throw off USU. Minnesota Crookston (13-14) @ South Dakota State (8-19) - I'll pick SDSU here since they're solid at home and I want the relegation race to stay alive. |

Temple (17-11) @ Point Loma Nazarene (10-18) - The Owls should be able to handle this one on the road to keep the slimmest of slim hopes alive; getting to 18 wins. #8 Georgetown (22-6) @ California Baptist (6-22) - does Gtown rest the stars now that the conference has been clinched? Even if they do, they probably still beat Baptist. Eastern Illinois (17-11) @ Lipscomb (16-12) - very intriguing matchup here since Knight missed the first one and Barbieri will miss this one. Bishop is going to have some trouble here and with Johnson and Buckley in tough matchups too, I like Lipscomb CSU-Pueblo (10-18) @ Minnesota Crookston (13-15) - Pueblo dropped a surprising one to the Patriots. Crookston pretty much locks up another season in III.1, and with Jordan and Cameron out there's no reason they shouldn't win. Francis Marion (12-16) @ Minnesota State (18-10) - Shaver should be able to dominate this game blindfolded but the Patriots are fighting for their lives and have one of the better all time HW presidents so I expect this to stay close most of the way with MSU winning Pace (19-9) @ Simon Fraser (15-13) - Pace gets two key players back for this matchup of conflicting styles - pressure vs slow pace. The Clan have been blown out 3 games in a row, but they're too good for that trend to continue. Pace is now in an unexpected position of fighting for their promotion lives so this will be a dogfight that the Clan win in the last minute. St. Marys (18-10) @ South Dakota State (9-19) - The Gaels would be wise not to underestimate the Jackrabbits at home here. They beat Gtown at Frost earlier this season and have been clicking the last few games. I think the Jackrabbits pull off the upset Portland (3-25) @ Utah State (19-9) - Portland doesn't have a chance here as USU keeps the #2 promotion slot. |

El jefe Joined: 07/06/2018 Posts: 674 Temple Owls II.1 | 6-2 yesterday as well. With the relegation picture wrapped up, we look towards the promotion fight between 4 teams. #8 Georgetown (23-6) @ Temple (18-11) - Barring a 140 point win, Temple will spend another season in III.1 so this game is about boosting a borderline tournament resume and positioning for a more appealing path to at least 2 conference tourney wins. Georgetown should win this on the road unless they rest their starters Lipscomb (17-12) @ California Baptist (6-23) - Baptist is locked into facing the #2 seed in the tourney while Lipscomb is battling to avoid Gtown in the 2nd round. Lipscomb shouldn't have a problem here, but a win will not do much for their tournament resume. Eastern Illinois (17-12) @ Francis Marion (12-17) - the Patriots almost pulled off an upset against MSU that would have kept them in the race to stay in III.1 and made promotion a more interesting race. They remain a strong team and I like them to beat a Bishop-less Eastern Illinois. Minnesota State (19-10) @ Minnesota Crookston (13-16) - mega implications here as MSU controls it's own destiny in a MUST win game. Tolbert missed the first game for Crookston, so we will see how much that matters. It's a meaningless game for Crookston but if they play to win, I think they pull off the upset and break MSU's heart. Pace (19-10) @ Portland (3-26) - Pace dropped another game and needs a lot of help from Crookston and CSU. They will win this game but need to win by 30-40 points so they will need to play fast and shoot more 3's which is a bit out of their comfort zone. Point Loma Nazarene (10-19) @ Simon Fraser (16-13) - a mostly meaningless game as both teams are locked into their seeding. Loma is playing the young kids so the Clan should easily win. Utah State (20-9) @ South Dakota State (9-20) - The Aggies are probably in win or lose; Anderson has done a good job filling in for Barbieri and Hughes being out for SDSU probably takes the drama out of this game. USU secures promotion. CSU-Pueblo (11-18) @ St. Marys (19-10) - Pueblo has a lot of dangerous players and is a solid road team for the Gaels are in for a test. I think a lot depends on how Schwartz is deployed by CSU - will he spend some time at PF to shut down Henry? PG for the mismatch? This is close but the Gaels pull it out.....they probably need a 15 point win to keep ahead of Pace for promotion. It'll come down to a few points but I think the Gaels barely miss promoting Projected final standings: Gtown USU Pace (by PD) St Mary's MSU Lipscomb Temple Eastern Illinois Simon Fraser Minnesota Crookstpn Francis Marion Csu Pueblo Point Loma South Dakota St Cal Baptist Portland |

El jefe Joined: 07/06/2018 Posts: 674 Temple Owls II.1 | Great season to all in III.1 - it was another hugely competitive season here. After 4 consecutive seasons in III.1, I bid you adieu for the time being for an anticipated short stay in II.1. Leading into the conference tourney, here are some predictions First Round #16 Cal State Monterey Bay (3-27) @ #1 Pace (22-8) - Pace....clearly #9 Missouri Western (15-15) @ #8 Washington State (17-13) - this will be another close one. WSU needs this to keep their tourney hopes alive. Missouri Western is a strong team but may be in for a let down after a highly emotional win to avoid demotion. Going with WSU. #13 UCF (10-20) @ #4 Lipscomb (20-10) - Lipscomb just missed our on promotion but has arguably been the hottest team in III.1 after a slow start...shades of Minnesota State from a few seasons back. Bisons with the big W. #12 Azusa Pacific (15-15) @ #5 St. Marys (18-12) - this will be a fun matchup. Naph fighting for the national tourney, and basoy fighting to get the bitter taste of a 15-15 demotion out of his mouth. Going with the more talented roster here with St. Marys. #14 South Florida (9-21) @ #3 Temple (21-9) - Ware is injured but Temple should be able to pick up the W and actually win a conference tourney game in III.1 after 4 previous unsuccessful tries #11 Marist (15-15) @ #6 Columbus State (17-13) - Columbus State is a totally different team at home, so seeing them on a neutral court will be interesting. Marist has been playing well, so will go with the former National Champs here. #10 San Jose State (15-15) @ #7 Maryland (17-13) - Probably a bit biased here based on my experiences with them, but SJSU is a mighty tough team. They're at a size disadvantage to the Terrapins, but I feel SJSU still pulls it out #15 Simon Fraser (4-26) @ #2 Wyoming (22-8) - Wyoming....clearly Second Round #8 Washington State (17-13) @ #1 Pace (22-8) - Pace won both games handily and don't see them being challenged here #5 St. Marys (18-12) @ #4 Lipscomb (20-10) - The last matchup was a tight one, and I could see Kay having a big game here unless Bowman is put on him. This will be interesting - going with Lipscomb #11 Marist (15-15) @ #3 Temple (21-9) - Temple goes for revenge against the team that squashed their conference title hopes. If Ware were healthy it would be a different story, but I think Marist wins this #10 San Jose State (15-15) @ #2 Wyoming (22-8) - SJSU decimated Wyoming twice, albeit once with Wyoming's frontcourt on the shelf. I think Wyoming finally solves the SJSU puzzle and advances Semifinals #4 Lipscomb (20-10) @ #1 Pace (22-8) - both games between these two teams were fantastic this season. Lipscomb will pull off the trifecta with a big game from Muse and strong enough D from Barbieri to somewhat mitigate Foote #11 Marist (15-15) @ #2 Wyoming (22-8) - a season split brings some intrigue here. I wouldn't be surprised to see Marist pull it off to continue their Cinderella run, but Wyoming pulls it off in the end. Finals #4 Lipscomb (20-10) @ #2 Wyoming (22-8) - two more great regular season games (it's a theme in III.1)! Lipscomb will make some adjustments to play better perimeter defense and that will be the difference here as I don't see Wyoming stopping the Bison offense. Conference Tourney Winner: Lipscomb |

Should be a really competitive second half of the conference schedule. Really nervous about the remaining NWMO schedule. We've got a big chunk of away games in February, which will make or break our promotion hopes. Good luck everyone! |
