Jan 29 2009: Colorado Finishes 2009 Recruiting Class - by coachwannabe on October 31st, 2019

The Buffaloes made their third and final signing of the 2009 recruiting class today with PF Bret Cockrell. Cockrell joins SF J.C. Dillard and C Max Waite in what should be a strong recruiting class for the Buffaloes, especially given their needs in the frontcourt.

Dillard is the only in-state recruit for the class and was the first commit of the season for Colorado. While his stats don't necessarily jump off the page, he should be a strong contributor after a redshirt year. His ability to stretch the floor was a huge factor in his recruitment.

Cockrell is an in-region, 7-foot recruit who is having a strong senior year, averaging 12.3 PPG and 10.8 RPG. He's a dominant force on the board and has a solid ability to stretch the floor. He also plans to redshirt in his first year on campus.

Finally, Waite was the one out-of-state recruit who has been high on Coach Flores' list since his sophomore year of high school. Waite is also having a strong senior year, averaging 13.2 PPG and 10.2 RPG. After a redshirt year, he and Cockrell should be a dominant pairing and give Colorado a strong frontcourt moving forward.

The Buffaloes currently sit atop the conference with a 16-3 conference record and 21-8 overall record on the season. If they maintain the current momentum, they project to be in Conference III.1 next season.

Jan 24 2008: Colorado Secures 2008 Recruiting Class - by coachwannabe on September 5th, 2019

With only two spots in the 2008 recruiting class, the Buffaloes made sure to make the most of their scholarships, landing two in-state 4-star recruits in Braydon Haley and Cameron Ivey.

Haley projects as a future PG for the Buffaloes, although he will have to wait his turn as Brett Gallo, a budding star, is currently on the roster. Haley is currently averaging a respectable 12.6 PPG and 2.7 APG as a Senior.

Ivey is expected to be a breakout star at SF in Boulder. He is currently averaging 14.2 PPG and 6.2 RPG as a Senior.

Both recruits are expected to redshirt in their first season on campus.

Feb 03 2007: Colorado Fills SG Need - by coachwannabe on July 14th, 2019

With SG Randy Gibson set to graduate this season, and SG Walt Younger going into his senior season, SG was a huge need for the Buffaloes this season. Fortunately, they were able to land their #1 target for this season, Freddy O'Carroll, who will play SG after a redshirt season.

O'Carroll is an athletic guard with decent length who can play either the PG or SG positions. Due to Colorado having landed star talent Brett Gallo last season, Coach Jaime Flores was looking to bring in a guard to pair with him for the future. O'Carroll fills that need, and the backcourt looks set for Colorado's future. Now, the Buffaloes turn their attention toward future classes, as they prepare to rebuild a front court that is set to lose star big man Clay Mathis.

Oct 28 2006: Colorado Gets Richards - by coachwannabe on June 16th, 2019

The Buffaloes received their first commitment of the season, as in-state C Ken Richards pledged to wear the Black and Gold today. There were initially some concerns that Richards would not qualify for college after some initially low scores on his first ACT, but after retaking the exam and qualifying, he knew he wanted to stay close to home and play for Colorado.

Richards is a large presence in the paint. Head Coach Jamie Flores expects for him to redshirt his first year on campus and to contribute more in the future.

Mar 23 2006: Colorado Gets Back to Level III - by coachwannabe on June 3rd, 2019

After a rough beginning to an era, the tides have turned in Boulder, as the Buffaloes locked up their second promotion in as many years to find themselves back where it all started: Conference III.1. Though narrowly missing out on the national tournament, Colorado finished 2nd overall in Conference IV.2. Head Coach Jamie Flores is being praised for taking over from his predecessor and turning the ship around by instilling a hard-nose defense.

Senior PG Spud Simmons led the way for the Buffaloes this season, averaging 9.8 PPG and 8.9 APG on the season. He finished as the school's and conference's all-time leader in assists. Senior SF Brad Bird and Senior PF Norm Hawthorne also played large roles in their final season in Black and Gold, averaging 14.6 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 2.2 SPG and 13 PPG and 6.8 RPG respectively. And after earning Freshman of the Year honors and All-Conference honors as a Sophomore, Junior C Clay Mathis continued his impressive run of play this season, leading the team with 18.3 PPG and 7.6 RPG. He will be leaned on next season, as the senior-most returning player on the team and arguably the most-decorated returning player in his new conference.

Now, the heat turns up, as Coach Flores seeks to maintain his run of success among a higher level of opponents in 2006-2007.
