Hello all,

I'm not sure if I'm just an idiot and forgot to click the redshirt button or if this was actually a bug, but I have two players (Lawrence McMillan and Jack King) who were both set up to redshirt (played zero games) but I've just noticed both are listed as sophomores.

I'm about 95% percent sure I had the button pressed, and I remember after the season both of their names on my roster were highlighted in purple (like they usually are when a player is set up to be redshirted). So just wondering if this is an actual bug that has happened before and can be rectified or if I just made a dumb mistake that Ill have to live with lol.

This seems to happen every flip, one or two people don't select red shirt correctly. In the first couple of seasons, I tried to change the DB afterwards -- but it led to more issues.

I have tried to put in place mechanisms to help people remember. Am willing to listen to additional suggestions.

Yeah I think I must have been messing with my game management stuff mid-season and erased them, unfortunate, but it happens.

Two possible solutions off the top of my head.

1. make the redshirt option permanent once the button is pressed and put in a pop-up warning to let people know before they confirm

2. Make redshirting an automated process. No button presses. If a redshirt-eligible player is marked to play zero minutes in the game management screen he will be automatically redshirted.

The thing is, injuries happen, meaning you might need to un-redshirt someone (just as in real college basketball). Also redshirting changes the scholarship allotment you will have for a particular class. So therefore, I redshirted a guy this past season mainly to have 2 scholarships for his SR year available rather than 1.

So I dont like the idea of eithe making it automated or irrevocable. Eligible redshirt players are marked in yellow towards the end of the season, so for me, that is reminder enough.

Many players get those 5 games they can play out of the way early in the season and then redshirt them and go. I find resetting their minutes in management settings to 0 very necessary, so if the AI decides to use someone not on the depth chart for 1 minute, that blows a game.

One thing to note is if you dont make tournament, those redshirt guys can play in Invitational games without blowing their redshirt.

Piggybacking/Devil's Advocate:

1. What if I change my mind?

Assumption: To ensure that a player's RS is preserved, set the player's playing time to 0 and check the RS box.
Use case 1: My starter gets hurt, I need to temporarily remove the player's RS for depth
Use case 2: I successfully recruit over a rostered player or my overarching recruiting profile changes; I no longer want the rostered player and want to cycle him out ASAP

2. Does this create the opposite problem: unintended redshirts are implemented?

Take use case 2 above, I successfully recruit over a rostered player, I uncheck his RS box thinking this will prevent the RS but forget to assign playing time.

I don't see why this needs to be fixed or made more complicated. Make sure you keep the box checked all season and only give the guy minutes when you want him to play. If you change your mind and want him to exceed 5 games, then uncheck the box.

Steve also sends out an announcement before the end of the season to make sure your redshirt selections are made.

Obviously wouldn't help for any glitches but has there been any confirmation that glitches are occurring vs oversights?

I don't think you want to force people to red-shirt everyone that's eligible or make the selection permanent.

It seems like every few seasons 1 out of ~650 team has an issue -- so maybe this isn't that big an issue??

If it's not too hard to implement. Maybe have an announcement sent to the mail box asking "if the red shirt option has been set", "if not, set it now". Maybe supply a time that the rs option expires. This might help people that forget, and people do forget or get confused some times.

If they don't log in or read their mail then thats their problem, not the games. Maybe people just need to be reminded about some things. Other games do it and it shouldn't be too difficult to do...

We already have an alert system in the game so just use that if it is decided that this is necessary. So use the alerts interface that will flag if you have an eligible player to redshirt that doesn't have the box checked.

I agree with el jefe that this doesn't happen often enough to warrant any changes, just think we should go the alerts route rather than mail.

I don't think the RS system needs changing - I'd prefer if Steve is putting time into the game that it goes into stopping last minute substitutions of starters in close games.

Hi,

Putting it under this thread.
I have this nice dude who I wanted to RS and who I did RS, but he is somehow in a dual state - dude is:

He is both SO in the statistics and the depth chart but RS in the roster.
Am I seeing something wrong? I will try to play him tonight and see what happens...
Could be I remembered to RS him while the change of season was happening and somehow I made him achieve quantum qualities.

It seems fine, he's officially a redshirt sophomore, it just doesn't show it in the abbreviations everywhere.

So you redshirted him sophomore year and in his statistics it has two SO rows and doesn't have the RS row. I can look into this...

Re: drift boss

He is a redshirt sophomore, which is good, but the abbreviations used everywhere don't reflect that.
