What are some examples of real world coaches that have pipelines (in college basketball)?

Are they really on par with the local teams as far as recruiting?

Not sure if it's actually Coach Calipari or one of his assistants, but Kentucky has essentially had a pipeline here in Canada for a decade (Trey Lyles, Jamal Murray, Mychal Mulder and even Shaedon Sharpe before he made a business decision not to play to keep his draft stock). Almost got Wiggins too during that window. Kentucky is always in on the elite talent up here.

Then Maine recently for lower-tier talent. Although you could kind of argue that's been more regional proximity, as most of those recruits have been from Ontario/Quebec.

I’m a Texas Tech fan myself, and last season we had an assistant from the west coast and that opened us up to California, Oregon, and Washington to get our name in on some big recruits from that area

I think for Pipelines to work, we'd want to have a select group of kids from each region play for an AAU team. It could be like you'd have to spend recruit points buttering up an AAU coach, who'd then give you a better chance at recruiting players on his team.

I would think on par with in region schools is a bit much. I think somewhere between in-region and out of region.

For regions where there are no in-region schools maybe it could be on par with in-region.

St Mary's has a pretty solid history of recruiting out of Australia for the past 20 years.

Pipelines would be a great idea for hardwood. Like the realisticness to real college basketball. (If you haven’t learned DePaul is high on realism

There are actually a ton of examples in real life. In fact, I remember back when I was in college that Colorado had a tie to San Antonio area and landed multiple basketball recruits from there (I think they still have Texas ties). College coaches commonly build relationships with high school coaches who tap them when a good player comes through their ranks.

Hawaii practically only recruits California and the Pacific Islands, with occasion kids from Texas.

Air Force largely recruits from Texas.

Kentucky has a coach exclusively focused on Texas, trying to build a bigger pipeline there.

And even more recently, 'Nova's coach Jay Wright had a huge pull from the DMV area. However, his retirement is likely to lead to a huge DMV recruit decline for 'Nova going forward.

Here are a few articles on college pipelines (including data/evidence on some of the ones I mentioned above):

Also, I will say I have seen pipeline successfully implemented in other sports games. Draft Day Sports used to have a popular pipeline mechanic. Also, the NCAA Football and Basketball games had pipelines for coaches.

Sounds convincing…I would like to have some coaches build some pipelines in the futre
